SB 185 Vetoed: Don’t Stop Dreamin’!

Posted on October 9, 2011. Filed under: Uncategorized |

Amidst a victory we face this reality: Governor Brown vetoed SB 185 today, a bill that aims to increase diversity and have admissions take race, gender, ethnicity, geographic origin, national origin, household income, etc, into consideration. But due to the presence of Prop 209 (which banned the admissions process to use those factors), the Gov. would rather the courts decide if the ban on the usage of those factors is unconstitutional, with the already pending case against Prop 209. Gov. Brown did however in his message to the legislature of his veto, explain that he strongly supports the goals of SB185. So you know what that means..we must continue to fight the good fight! Just because the DreamACT passed doesn’t mean we should stop dreaming.
