FAMU Basketball Stabbing Death Shocks and Devastates Campus

Words can not express the level of dismay and heartache that accompanies the news of Shannon Washington’s death at Florida A&M University. Shannon was a member of the women’s basketball team and was pronounced dead after being found stabbed in the neck. Starquinesha Palmer has been charged for first-degree murder in the homicide of Shannon. As a student and a student of color at that I hope for every student to feel safe at their institution of higher learning. This news of Shannon is unacceptable and heartbreaking.

Florida A&M University is part of our family and we all had the pleasure of experiencing the beauty that is Florida A&M and the sense of hospitality that made us all feel welcomed. Just as FAMU welcomed us into their lives, we welcome them into our hearts and our love. From our varying campuses and communities, our love goes out to Shannon and her family.
